Welcome to my film blog! My name is Amy, I’m a creative writing student with too many ideas and too little time.
I’ve never claimed to be an expert on films. I’m not going to. They aren’t my focus, but they are an incredibly valuable medium for art, and to ignore them would be a mistake.
I enjoy films immensely, but the extent of my critique has often been restricted to whether or not I was entertained. A bit childish of a critique, but I’ll admit that first and foremost that’s still the most important part of a movie for me. Overall, how much did I enjoy it? Now, I’m still able to evaluate the films themes and look at how effective its message is, but I think that’s why I’ll never be a critic. Most of the time, I can shut out the desire to analyze films and enjoy it in its simplest form. Most of the time.
In taking a course on Film, Gender, and Sexuality, I can explore a variety of films I might never see otherwise, and learn about other’s experiences in a productive and academic manner.
Now, I’m evaluating movies. A wide variety of intriguing and meaningful stories that I’m poring over with a fine-tooth comb, and while I’m not the most experienced, I’m doing my best.
